What Would You Do For a Like?
How far will you go to get as many likes as you can on a status update or picture? You get that little update every now and then even more so when when you first signed up that somebody wants to friend you or that you have a new follower, sometimes it's a no brainer that you will add that person because they are really your friend, but what about the majority of your friend list, nobody truly has 500+ friends that they can call at a moments notice when something bad happens.
Do you ever catch yourself adding people as to not hurt their feelings or so you can follow somebody's news feed to be nosy or maybe just to get more recognition on your own feed?
We live in the digital age where our lives are plastered for everybody to see or should I say its mostly the good side of our life. In a way Facebook is like a 10 year high school reunion where you tell people how you have been and what you have been doing with your life and usually leaving out all the bad parts. I'm not saying Facebook is bad it can be great in keeping in touch with old friends and family especially when they don't live near you. I for one post lots of baby pictures for family to see.
Getting back to the meat of the matter, when you post something in the back of your mind you hope somebody will see it and hit that magic like button and sometimes you check to see how many people have liked your status or picture and it's even better when they comment. A example, imagine posting that perfect selfie picture that you spent so much time retaking and getting just the right pose and editing and then you post it and you catch yourself checking your phone for notifications to see if anybody has liked it or commented on it and when they do you get excited and depending on how many likes you get the better you feel. when you don't get the amount of likes you had secretly hoped for you will sometimes post more stuff just to get a reaction out of people. There are some people who are able to post more personal statuses more then others and sometimes people try to be more personal online so they can get more response from their friends. Personally it's hard for myself to post some of the bad things that happen in my life, maybe its that insecure outcast girl from high school I channel afraid I will be judged by all and talked about and so on, but I think a lot of it comes from the fact that my friend list does not consist of only my best friends and family, but in actuality a lot of acquaintances, friends, several besties, some family and the occasional "did I add them while I was drunk" person. I'm not saying I don't want all these people in my friend list and not saying I won't stop adding people either, but I do sensor my life a little on Facebook and I think most people do too.
Ask yourself what you are getting out of your posts and look back at what you have posted
just to get a like or comment. In the end does it matter? This article is nothing more then some cannon fodder to get you thinking about what you post and why because sometimes we forget or we get caught up in this digital age social media frenzy. Also sometimes its nice to step away maybe call somebody on your friend list that you haven't talked to in years and reconnect. Another thing, your life matters status update or not, liked or not, don't worry so much about getting likes, followers and so on.

I am happy that Facebook and Twitter were not a thing in High
School because my insecurities would have been greater and I am sure I
would have dealt with cyber bullying and so on, I was lucky in the fact
that I was in college when it came out, it was a great way to stay in
touch with everybody and then it was ok to post everything, I didn't
have a care in the world during that time. Now I do care what I post and
now I think about what it will be like for my daughter when she is in
high school, who knows if Facebook will even exist then, but I am sure
something like it will be around.
Thank you guys for reading
